2024 #2: Disney Beach Baby

As mentioned in my last post, the long trip we had planned for this spring was cancelled, replaced by a few shorter trips. The first one, detailed in the last post, was to Jim Thorpe, PA. Our next trip was to Disney World. We were supposed to camp with our Oliver in Fort Wilderness at Disney, but the changes meant we flew down and stayed in the All Star Music Resort, instead.

I'll be honest, I wasn't happy about this. Disney classifies the All Star resorts as "Value" resorts, compared to the "Moderate" Fort Wilderness. I was expecting a cheap hotel experience. That wasn't the case at all. We really enjoyed our stay there. A clean, quiet room with a nice pool. (I do recommend the "Preferred" rooms at this resort since they're closer to the pool, cafe, and bus stops.) We had park hopper tickets and the counter service meal plan, too, so it was a good trip, even without the RV.

After Disney we hitched up the Oliver and headed to the beach for a multi-week stay at a state park. We've discovered that this is a perfect environment for our Oliver, which is outfitted with the standard toilet/black tank, lithium batteries and solar panels. There are no hookups, but we use the campground bathhouses most of the time and conserve water in the trailer as much as possible. Doing that, we can go weeks without filling our tanks. For electricity, the Oliver's solar/lithium combination pretty much gives us unlimited power for everything, even short runs of the air conditioner if needed. Eggcelsior works very well in dry-camping campgrounds with bathhouses. (If you're going to boondock in an Oliver for extended periods without hookups, the optional composting toilet might be worth it.)

In the middle of our beach stay we hooked up and headed north for a weekend to attend our grandson's christening. We stayed in another dry-camping state park site and used that as our base to join the family activities before heading back down to the beach for another week.

Now we're home and hitting the To-Do list for a while before we can camp again. Still need to get the lawn regraded around the garage.......
