2022 #8: FOR SALE sign

With our Oliver trailer delivery day approaching fast we officially put our fifth wheel up for sale today. The Rockwood 8289WS is listed on RV Trader here, if anyone's interested. It's a nice rig. We really enjoyed it. UPDATE 5/13: We now have a sale pending on our fifth wheel.

2024 #1: 1st Trip in Retirement

The best laid plans, etc., etc. We were planning a long spring trip to Florida and the Oliver rally but fate had other ideas. Even so, when a few nice days showed up on the forecast we decided to take a quick 6 day trip to Jim Thorpe, PA. It's a town we saw featured by some YouTubers we follow, and it's only 4 hours from home.  The trip didn't start well at all. First time pulling out of our new garage and I forgot to fold up the trailer steps. They hit the wall next to the garage door and broke the framing. The bottom trailer step also bent and wouldn't fold. Panic time!  Fortunately, our friend is a contractor. He came right over and said he'd repair the garage while we were gone. Great guy! As for the trailer, I was able to bend the step enough to get it to close, so the trip was still on with only an hour delay.  We stayed at Hickory Run State Park, about half an hour from Jim Thorpe. 2024 #2: Disney Beach Baby

As mentioned in my last post, the long trip we had planned for this spring was cancelled, replaced by a few shorter trips. The first one, detailed in the last post, was to Jim Thorpe, PA. Our next trip was to Disney World. We were supposed to camp with our Oliver in Fort Wilderness at Disney, but the changes meant we flew down and stayed in the All Star Music Resort, instead. I'll be honest, I wasn't happy about this. Disney classifies the All Star resorts as "Value" resorts, compared to the "Moderate" Fort Wilderness. I was expecting a cheap hotel experience. That wasn't the case at all. We really enjoyed our stay there. A clean, quiet room with a nice pool. (I do recommend the "Preferred" rooms at this resort since they're closer to the pool, cafe, and bus stops.) We had park hopper tickets and the counter service meal plan, too, so it was a good trip, even without the RV. After Disney we hitched up the Oliver and headed to the beach for ...

2023 #3: One Year In and a Lithium Challenge

Happy Fourth of July! We just spent a week (6 nights/7 days) camping in full shade on mostly rainy/cloudy days. We were at one of our favorite oceanside campgrounds in Connecticut and we scored a site in a wooded section next to the tidal marsh. The clouds and 2 huge trees overhead mostly took our solar panels out of the picture. Mostly. More about that later.  We figured this would be a good test of our Lithium Platinum Package with its 640 AH batteries. We left home fully charged and used the fridge on 12v power for the hour drive to the beach. Since it was cloudy, that used 4% of our charge before we even set up camp. We proceeded to dry-camp for the week pretty much the way we had with our other trailers. We ran the fridge on propane, pumped water from our tank, used minimum interior lighting, and remembered to turn off lights we weren't using. In the end, that wasn't really necessary. Unlike our other trailers, we also ran the inverter to make coffee and run the microwave....
